Don't they have anything better to do?

So the house passed a Flag Burning Amendment (it still has to go through the Senate with a 2/3rds vote). My question is....don't they have something better to do? I am just as red-blooded as the next (Texan) guy, but really. Shouldn't we want to protect speech, not infringe upon it? If some guy is ticked at America to burn a flag and cannot think of anything and more creative than burning a flag, so be it. Do we really want to expend the resources to arrest and prosecute such an individual? Keep in mind that that we are not only paying a prosecutor to try this person, but also defend appeals and challenges to the law (silly I know). We also are taking up valuable time in our state legislatures during the ratification process (not Texas mind you, where such a proposal would pass without so much as a discussion).

What a waste.

Agreed. AM Radio's been all over this one. Can I now no longer burn a picture of an eagle? What about burning a model of the capitol building?

And here's my ignorance; I thought the bill was to 'allow' flag burning. I didn't even consider that it was to ban flag burning.

The flag is a symbol of freedom; so we're going to dissallow someone the freedom to burn a symbol of freedom?

By the way, I just read throught the bill and it says the "physical desecration of the flag."

I guess the next generation protestors will carry flat panel monitors with digital flag burning.
